The past weeks submission for Blown Covers was centered on Spring Training, the time each year where the major league baseball begins the ritual of getting the team prepped and ready, and whittling down the team for the longest season in sports. One of the perks of the theme was that it could be directed towards either the Yanks or the Mets, who are participating in their 50 Yr anniversary season. I come from the days of Frank Thomas, Ricky Henderson, and Robin Ventura so I have always had a love for baseball, and I have to support our local Rockies. Creating these thumbs was a lot of fun, and as abstract studies go, many were quite successful. Here is another link that sums up many of my exact thoughts on thumbnail sketches, and includes amazing preliminary work from Donato Giancola at Muddy Colors: Abstract World
The first image was chosen to be included in the "Cream of the Crop" of this weeks submissions, so without further ado, here are the links for all the submissions, the Winner, and the runner-ups. I am honored to be included in the "Cream of the crop" of the Spring Training submissions, and to be in such great company with the other artists, and the stable artists that we shared wall space with. Head on over to the links to see Francoise's comments on the strength of these images and more. Special thanks to Francoise Mouly, and Nadja Spiegelman for the opportunity.
