WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE 2

In my last post I said I would post the remaining thumbnails and additional concept designs for my Wild Things piece. Here are the silhouette studies, and some additional thumbnails I completed, inspiring me in a different direction for the final piece. Also included is a poor photograph of the first stage of the painting on the board, graphite and oil glazes. I decided to go a different route for the finish because I felt it would be effective to explore the idea of isolation, adventure, and surprise meetings.

WHERE THE WILD THINGS ARE

So seeing as I have been a bit behind on posting the latest and greatest of the projects going on, I am going to post my process thumbnails and concepts thus far for an upcoming show inspired by Maurice Sendak's classic children's book "Where the Wild Things Are" . Also Spike Jonze's interpretation hits theatres tonight, so it's only appropriate. I will post the remaining thumbnails and silhouette concepts next week as I decide which of them to hone down and sharpen up for the final. Graphite thumbnails, CS grayscale studies. Let me know which ones you prefer.

WATERCOLOR CONCEPT

Here is the final line drawing for an image I will be painting in watercolor. Felt a preview was necessary since it has been in progress for quite sometime. The final destination for this piece is a gift for a dear family friend, who has been anxious to recieve this for too long. The wait is almost up, finish soon to come.

LUCIANA BIRTHDAY FLYER

So as I have been working with Darrell Anderson at the Custom House Federal Building in downtown Denver, I have had the opportunity to meet many other artists, creative minds, and personalities. I was recently asked to create a flyer for a fellow artist 50th birthday party, using an image of her and her painting. With the crazy schedule and time crunch I had been on , I produced this image in CS for her to use. Pleased with the finish and the concept is pretty cool for a Bday flyer for friends, special thanks to Luciana and Darrell for the assistance.

CHARLIE COUSINS MURAL

For now I will only preview the artwork, and lay off of the description, up and coming mural for Five Points, here are the progress images thus far. Enjoy! Very excited for this project, and will update as soon as the wheels are turning a bit more.

INVITE FOR ABEND HOLIDAY SHOW 09

I have been invited to show in the annual holiday miniature show at Abend Gallery for another year. Very exciting opportunity and a great showcase of nearly 50 artists who exhibit most every medium from pastel, oil, and even some amazing egg tempera pieces. The list of artists is online and the shows preview should be up within a few weeks. Very excited for this years exhibition, I have paintings from Estes Park, San Antonio, Phoenix, and a very special locale I was directed to by the one and only Mac, a gem on the edge of the states. Look for more soon.
