The Denver Plein Air Festival is known as the country’s largest urban event of its kind. And it’s getting even bigger. For 2013, the magic of painting “en plein air” is breaking Denver boundaries and going statewide. Now known as “The Colorado Plein Air Festival,” the 2013 paint out schedule runs August 1 through September 29, with a final weekend of painting at The Fort restaurant.
Whether you’re a professional artist, an art student or just love to paint, you won’t want to miss one of the many opportunities to paint in some the most spectacular urban and natural settings Colorado has to offer. This year, History Colorado’s museums and historic sites located in Georgetown, Silver Plume, Montrose, Pueblo, Trinidad, Leadville, Fort Garland and Platteville are joining The Lariat Loop Alliance, Denver Mountain Parks and Jefferson County Open Space as special paint out and stamping locations. Special paint out locations throughout Denver will also be featured.
The Colorado Plein Air 2013 Art Festival kicks off on the Capital steps and in Civic Center Park on August 1, Colorado Day! If you are not an artist you will enjoy participating in this signature event as a spectator! Who knows, you may show up in someone’s painting or photograph!
The event culminates with a juried exhibition of festival works at the Denver Public Library in November, with winning works receiving a special showing at History Colorado’s Byers-Evans House Gallery.
The Colorado Plein Air Festival is produced and managed by the Golden Triangle Museum District.
Registration will be open until September 29th.
Images above are from the fourth paint-out I have participated in thus far this year. I didn't make it all the way to the Healy House/Dexter Cabin but this Leadville meadow with a view of six peaks through the mountain air was enough for me to stop and set up. About 2 hours 30 minutes working time, I am please with the finish. Look for many more paint out photos and plein air painting as the festival gets underway for August and into September.
Thanks for stopping in, more posts soon, and remember to visit www.deltondemarestarts.com for updates and current projects.
